Broadcast Journalism
While our school was completely remote and I was in charge of social media, I thought it was important for students to connect with the creative work of their peers. I facilitated this by getting videos of students expressing their respective creative outlets. I made my first podcast this year as well which was an exciting new way to engage with our audience. I also collaborated with our Outreach Director and Social Media Coordinator to connect with our audience by making videos featuring our Editorial Board members.
Editor's Spotlight Video
In collaboration with our Social Media Coordinator Ollie Hendershot, I created a staff spotlight broadcast video for our social media. Our goal with this video was to connect to our student audience by showing an interview with the Editor about why I'm involved with the iliad and what I do outside of school.
Submission Announcement Video
In collaboration with our Outreach Director Salai Diekumpuna, I created a PSA video to inform our students about our upcoming deadline for submitting to our 2023 magazine. I helped her with coming up with the video concept, creating the script for the video, coming up with the location and style of filming, as well as packaging and publishing it. Social Media Video-Laniya Jones
Clarke Central High School student Laniya Jones wrote a monologue titled "What Do You See?" that was published in the 2021 edition of our literary-art magazine. I reached out to her and asked if she would send me a video of her reading the monologue. I thought this would be especially impactful since it was written to be spoken. The video was very well received by our audience. Click on the image to watch the video.
Social Media Video-Salai Diekumpuna
Clarke Central High School student Salai Diekumpuna wrote a powerful poem called "What Do You Go By" that was published in the 2021 edition of our magazine. I asked her to send me a video of her reading her piece because I thought that our social media audience could connect with a video of an author more deeply than they might with just a photo of the piece. Social Media Video-Henry Kurtz
Clarke Central High School student Henry Kurtz is a metal sculpture artist and had a piece called "Steel Dice" featured in the 2020 edition of the iliad, FLOW. He and I arranged for me to visit him to video him talking about his art to be posted on our social media. Click on the image to watch the video.
What is the iliad? A Podcast
The iliad Outreach Director Salai Diekumpuna and I created a podcast to inform our audience about our program about what we do. We collaboratively wrote a script and recorded and I packaged the audio and uploaded it to our website and made a promotional post for our social media.
